The Watchtower organization's crime against humanity
by TerryWalstrom inwho are the real heroes of society?.
are they not the people who are doctors and nurses and teachers and firemen and policemen and counselors and humanitarians?.
because of the watchtower organization, we are missing generations of those kinds of heroes who will not exist (but could have) because jehovah's witnesses destroyed them by convincing millions of it's members those professions are meaningless and unimportant for them to pursue.

Talk about overly dramatic!! So some minor religious group committed a "crime against humanity" because they discouraged people from developing their talents? You are giving them WAY more credit than they deserve and as was been pointed out, they are a grain of sand on the beach of humanity. The only people this stupid religion matters to are; us and those few that get their Sat morning disturbed for a few minute before they slam the door.
Focus on folks that are really causing problems like radical Muslims that actually do destroy people, beheading them, setting them on fire. Those are ACTUAL crimes against humanity.
A JW will read this and completely dismiss as "apostates" exaggerating.

Your body of elders - were they liberal, conservative or moderate?
by minimus inin my first kingdom hall, the elders were ultra conservative.
our presiding overseer used to be a zone overseer.
the second hall i was in was moderate.

On the one hand, it seems like a missed opportunity but on the other hand, Morris wouldn't have a serious conversation about issues with ANY peon JW much less an "apostate". I'm not a big fan of prank calls just seem juvenile to me. Honestly, I wouldn't want to talk to that scumbag (Morris) anyway. -

New Appointments Are Very Fast & All On The CO
by baldeagle inthe week of september 15, 2014 was the congregations cos visit.
the midweek meeting was on tuesday, a very general bland talk was given by the co. in the past we would have had the elders & servants meeting on thursday night, and the other congregation meeting on friday.
as you know the friday meeting is no more.

Same with me. There was also a deletion and that had the same wording. No "I" from the CO -

Conti Appeal Preview - Oral Argument Jan 14
by Chaserious inwith hopefully a good deal of interest here in the conti appeal tomorrow (or later today, depending on where you are), i thought that on my ride home from work tonight i'd preview what to expect and what i think the key issues are for any who are interested.
i have had a busy few weeks and haven't had time to read everything, but i had some time to look at the appeal briefs during my work commute the past couple days.
it'll be interesting to see what develops out of the network news coverage of this case.

Thanks for putting the issues in laymen terms. This will be really interesting. I think if the verdict is upheld, that could represent some real issues for not only the WTS but other similar institutions. At it's heart, I really think that they did have a duty to warn and certainly prevent the pedophile from being around children at congregation sponsored events (meetings/field service).
Hopefully the WTS will end up changing some of their policies as a result.

Green handshakes are a "gift". In the US, as long as the gift is below a certain dollar amount (pretty good sized) then they wouldn't have to report it. I mean, do you report if a friend gives you a gift? It's not a tip.
I've often wondered if there was some shadowy figures pulling the strings but some of their moves are so stupid that I doubt it. I think they simply believe that making money off of real estate ensures a constant cash flow stream that will allow them to continue the religion. It's about survival and I think they realized that 1) Armageddon isn't coming anytime soon and 2) divine intervention isn't going to happen. So, they are simply doing that they feel they need to do to keep it going.
Yeah, the heavies get perks but the biggest perk is the worship of 8 million people and the power trip that comes from controlling people's lives.

Talked to the wife about the education video, and she thinks churches should be taxed...
by garyneal inwe went on a weekend trip to visit family back in our hometown and on the way down i brought up the recent video on tv.jw.org concerning education.
i basically said the same thing about it that i said on this thread.
to sum up, i said that if the wts is so concerned about witnesses losing their spirituality at the university then they need to put their money where their mouth is.

I've often wondered why the WTS doesn't form a university. There's lots of money to be made and they could organize as a not-for-profit so no tax implications. Seems like they are bypassing an easy source of funds while at the same time, losing young members. I know lots of JWs that still send their kids to college and would likely be happy to send them to Gilead University (or whatever they want to name it). This would also give the WTS the ability to control the message and increase the earning (and donating) power of the next generation of JWs.
I can't imagine that whatever consultant they have been working with hasn't suggested it already.
